The educational environment at Michener is designed to ensure you gain the right skills, attitudes and behaviours to successfully enter your chosen profession. You will have a comprehensive learning experience that combines theory with labs and simulated environments, which allow you to practice and hone your skills without the fear of making a mistake. You’ll also have the opportunity to learn at some of Canada’s pre-eminent teaching hospitals and healthcare organizations, gaining valuable patient experience and a chance to network with potential employers. Two key components of your education are Simulation-Enhanced Learning and Interprofessional Education.

Applicants to the Medical Laboratory Science program must possess the following qualifications:

If you have college or university experience, a minimum 2.70 university CGPA is required (regardless of length of time attended)

  • Four grade 12 University (U) level courses:
    • Grade 12 English (U)
    • Grade 12 Mathematics (U)
    • Grade 12 Chemistry (U)
    • Grade 12 Biology (U) OR Physics (U) – (Biology is strongly recommended)
  • Two University (U) or University/Mixed (U/M) level courses
  • Overall average of 75% in all the six courses used to meet the admission requirements
  • No grade lower than 70% in the six courses
  • CASPer assessment – please visit the Mandatory Admissions Assessment page for test dates.
  • Out-of-province applicants can verify whether their background is equivalent here.

    Note: College level programs/courses do not meet prerequisite requirements.

    University-level courses may be used to satisfy subject prerequisites. Applicants with post-secondary education must provide official transcripts for all secondary and post-secondary institutions attended. The academic minimums on the post-secondary record are a 65% in each subject prerequisite and a CGPA of 70% (B-).

    Admission to the Medical Laboratory Science program will be determined by an assessment of academic achievement, CGPA, (50%) and CASPer test result (50%).

    All applicants must provide proof of English language proficiency. Applicants providing documents from overseas must complete specific document requirements.

    Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging Technology is a second entry program designed for students with at least one year of university experience. Applicants must meet academic requirements, participate in the Admissions Interview process and provide proof of English Facility (if applicable).

    Located in the heart of Toronto’s downtown hospital district, the Michener Institute boasts strong clinical and industry partnerships. The college incorporates cutting-edge technology in its training and offers 20,000 sq. feet of simulation space, which includes laboratories, examination rooms and operating theatres. Small class sizes ensure that students get hands-on interaction in simulated clinical environments.

    The Michener Institute offers 11 full-time programs and two part-time programs. Areas of study include all imaging disciplines, including ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging. The school offers courses in chiropody, medical laboratory science, respiratory therapy and medical radiation sciences (nuclear medicine and molecular imaging technology, radiation therapy and radiological technology). The school also offers continuing education programs and courses.
