Program (ABSN) is a second degree program for students who have completed an undergraduate degree and the required pre-requisites. The school has an acceptance rate of 92% and a graduation rate of 41%.
The College of Nursing offers an accelerated course of study for students with a baccalaureate degree or higher in another field to pursue a baccalaureate degree in nursing. The Accelerated BSN program is offered at the Gainesville campus and also at the UF Health Jacksonville campus.
Nursing students at UF have excellent and challenging opportunities to explore nursing research and science, be professionally involved with student and professional governance and have access to clinical experiences with patients across the life and cultural span.

The Accelerated BSN track builds on previous learning experiences and transitions individuals with undergraduate and graduate degrees in other fields into nursing. Courses and course sequencing in the accelerated baccalaureate option parallel the existing baccalaureate curriculum. The accelerated baccalaureate curriculum begins each summer beginning in May and is completed in four consecutive semesters of full-time study finishing the following August.

What is accelerated nursing?
These programs are tailored for students who are already in another area with a bachelor’s degree.
Accelerated programs are often referred to as second degree or direct-entry nursing programs which allow students to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) in 11 to 18 months of full-time study.

UF Accelerated Nursing is designed to help you get into the nursing program that works best for you. It begins with the on-site evaluation that measures your individual academic profile, and continues with a flexible program of study to prepare students for multiple entry points in Florida or Texas. Our online program offers accelerated course schedules for working nurses. Classes meet every Sunday from February through December at any University of Florida campus in Florida, and limited sessions in February and October in Texas.
UF’s Accelerated BSN Nursing program can be completed in one year. There are two ways to apply: (1.) Apply and be accepted to UF and (2.) Apply and be accepted to the Accelerated BSN Nursing only. Then submit an application through the RN-BSN Admissions Committee, and admissions procedures will begin.
